The journey of Hannes and Marike began in 2005 at a wedding in the stunning landscapes of Namibia, where a Dutch traveller met a South African adventurer. That meeting sparked a bond that would take us across continents. After living in the Netherlands, with the richness of European culture, they felt the pull of Africa and relocated as a family to Tzaneen, where their hearts found a new home. For the children this move was a chance to experience school and daily life in South Africa.
As owners and managers of Kings Walden Garden Manor, Marike and Hannes, have been hands-on since July 2023. Hannes is South African born and for many years he was a mobile safari operator, building lodges and training guides in South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Zambia. Apart from his local tourism operation he owns a Dutch based tour agency, bringing international visitors to Southern Africa.
From the minute they experienced the ‘wow’ which so many visitors to Kings Walden have felt, they were convinced that this was a place where they could follow their passions. Tapping into Marike’s experience and skills as a coach, reflexology teacher and therapist who had her own practice in the Netherlands, she wants Kings Walden to become a place of healing, joy and regeneration for body, mind and soul.
The vision for the future is a Garden of healing. We envisage expansion of a holistic organic farm with herbs, fruit and vegetables. Complimented by massage treatments in a natural environment that espouse and compliments Kings Walden’s spectacular views, mountain air, sunny weather and tranquillity.
